"We all yarn for what we have lost. But we forget what we have"
It's been a year since I lost my father. Nothing I can do will ever bring him back. I miss him so much to the extent that I forget he ever died in the first place. I took for granted that he was always there that I still don't believe he's no longer here.
What have you ever lost that you regret not appreciating?

I am so sorry for your loss, Amani. You are strong and courageous to share about it. Thank you for your very powerful question, too. My answer is not nearly as painful a loss as yours, but your question made me think about the role of music in my life. I was a piano performance major until my third year in college, when I had an arm injury. I wasn't able to play anymore, and so I had to switch majors. I ended up becoming a French major, studying abroad, and discovering that I loved teaching ESL. So now I can look back and appreciate that decision. But at the time it was very painful. And I don't think I appreciated what joy music brought to my life until I wasn't able to play anymore.
